In our previous article, we explored how Feng Shui was applied to a local supermarket to identify the most appropriate positioning of entrances and gates, helping to guide more customers into the building.

In this second part, we look inside the supermarket to explore how a Chue Style Feng Shui consultancy can be used to balance the interior environment, identify the most profitable location for the cashiers, and determine where different types of food products may be best positioned.

The Method: Chue Style Ba Chop Feng Shui

A full Ba Chop chart for the interior of the store was calculated.

Chue Style Ba Chop uses the Nine Jiu Stars 九曜星, with each direction containing three stars: a Site Star, a Facing Star and a Mansion Star.  The interaction between these stars helps us understand the quality and character of the Chi in each area.  This method has been developed by Grand Master Chan Kun Wah and is exclusive of Chue Style Feng Shui. 

This analysis can indicate which areas are more suitable for particular functions within a business. For example, one area may be more favourable for selling products, while another may be better suited for the loading bay or the toilets.

Key Findings from the Interior Supermarket Assessment

Balancing the Tai Chi Area

The central area called Tai Chi, plays an important role in establishing the energetic balance of the entire building. If the Tai Chi has disruption within the central stars, there is limited benefit in attempting to correct other areas of the interior.

In this supermarket, the star analysis showed an excess of Earth energy in the Tai Chi. This suggested an environment that could be slow-moving, stubborn and resistant to change. The external form of the building also had a strong Earth quality, reinforcing this condition. In simple terms, the Tai Chi and the form of the building were energetically “stuck”, rather like a large mountain obstructing the flow of customers.

The solution was to introduce more arched forms into the Tai Chi area and into the signage at the top of the building.  Arches are associated with Metal, which can be used to drain excessive stuck Earth energy and help create greater movement and balance.

Identifying the Best Area for the Cashiers

Cashiers in supermarkets naturally need to be positioned close to the exit, but Feng Shui can help determine which part of that area is most supportive of the business. We found that the Southwest contained strong energy that could support the taking in and retention of money and was near the exit.

The next step was to determine how the cashier and till should be positioned to support the smooth handling of transactions and reduce the potential for mistakes. For this particular study, the analysis indicated that the client would benefit from standing on the left-hand side of the cashier, with movement from Northeast towards Southwest.

This may seem like a small adjustment, but such details can have a significant impact. In Chue Style practice, we have seen positive results from simply changing the position or orientation of a cash register. This is an aspect of retail Feng Shui that is often underestimated.

Other Favourable Areas

The East was identified as a suitable location for the loading bay. The area contained strong Vitality Chi 生氣 , supporting the arrival and storage of fresh food before it was moved onto the shelves. The energy also indicated that employees could organise and manage their work effectively in this area, making it a practical and supportive location for this function. The West, with some adjustments, was identified as a potentially suitable location for the management  offices. It had a leadership quality which can be supportive of authority, leadership and management functions.

Positioning Food Products for Greater Profitability

The Ba Chop analysis can also provide guidance on where particular categories of products may perform better within a retail environment.

Certain star combinations can be particularly supportive of different types of merchandise. For example, where Sang Chi (生氣) is combined with strong Water stars, the area may be more suitable for products like frozen foods, seafood, drinks and other liquids, salty foods, yoghurt and products that require refrigeration. Sweet foods and bakery products can perform well in areas where Sang Chi supports the Earth stars. Depending on the combination of stars and the presence of Yin Lin Chi (延氣), certain areas may also be appropriate for medicines or pharmacy-related products.

The aim is not simply to divide the supermarket according to the Five Elements. The complete interaction of the stars must be considered to understand which products and functions are best supported by each individual area.

The Conclusion

In this supermarket assessment, the recommendations included improving the Tai Chi, introducing appropriate forms into the exterior signage, positioning the cashiers in a more favourable area and position, selecting a suitable loading bay and aligning product categories with the energetic qualities of different parts of the building. Together, these adjustments can contribute to improved commercial performance, while also supporting customer satisfaction, efficient working practices and greater harmony among employees.

This is one of the strengths of Chue Style Feng Shui: the analysis is not based on a single formula or a generalised approach. Each building is assessed according to its individual structure, orientation, star combinations and intended use.
